WRT Elects 2 New Board Members

Wakefield Repertory Theatre Elects New Board Members

Wakefield, MA— Wakefield Repertory Theatre (WRT) announces two new board members.

Just off the conclusion of another successful summer theater program for middle school-aged children that presented Alice in Wonderland earlier this month, the WRT board has elected two new members to join its council.

Erin Lyle (Wakefield) and Deb Butler (Melrose) are bringing their skills, experience as a parent of a youth member, and enthusiasm for local theater to our organization.

Deb Butler brings with her a background in marketing, communications, and event management. When asked why she was interested in joining WRT’s Board she said, “Now is such an amazing time for theater. Children have always had an unbelievable ability to imagine different outcomes. When you look at their hobbies outsides of sports, one of the primary interests of kids is role playing. The outdoor games of cops and robbers and hide and seek are still favorites, just now replicated virtually through video games. Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnight – kids and young adults consistently demonstrate that they desire opportunities to experience realities different from their own. They devote hours to creating vast and different nuanced situations and show unlimited perseverance in running scenarios combined with an unflagging wiliness to problem solve. To me, Theater is the ultimate virtual reality. It combines the thrill of make believe, the autonomy of assuming a different character, and self-expression through costume and dialogue choices with the opportunity to live through an experience in an entirely fictional universe. I’m thrilled to join WRT and hope to lend my skills to the continued promotion of the benefits of theater throughout the community.”

Erin Lyle brings a background in Software Development and says this about joining WRT’s board, “I first expressed interest in joining the WRT board because the program means so much to my family. I wanted to make a bigger contribution to this program that has given my son confidence, a sense of belonging, and friends I know he will have for years to come. However, when I went to my first board meeting, I knew I wanted to be a part of this special group. Everyone was so welcoming and passionate about what WRT stands for. I’m very excited to be a part of this journey.”

The board will begin working on staffing and producing the next annual Youth Summer Program to running June through August of 2019 and culminating with live performances of a full-scale musical production at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.

We are excited to welcome our newest board members who bring a wide breadth of experiences and skills, a passion for theatre and arts, and a strong desire to help WRT grow and thrive. Our goal is to carry on the good reputation WRT has in our community of providing entertaining theatre and sharing this passion with today’s youth”, said President Rob MacRobbie.
