WRYT IS HIRING for SUMMER 2022!

Wakefield Repertory Youth Theatre (WRYT) is a 6-week, immersive theatre summer camp program for children ages 10 – 14.  The camp program exposes campers students to the theatre craft through auditions, rehearsals, and workshops that culminate in a full-scale musical production.  Auditions are held in early June.  The camp program this year will run weekdays from July 5th through the second week of August. Camp Program for students runs 8 am to 2 pm, staff is to be there from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, estimated 35 hours per week.  Tech week may have extended hours.

WRYT Artistic Director Job Description
Stipend: $2000-$3500 depending on experience

The Artistic Director is the artistic leader and is responsible for the following aspects of the program:

  • Responsible for the overall artistic vision of the production.
  • Will participate in the audition process and will provide input into the casting process.
  • Will lead and oversee the staff, including the Music Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, all Assistants and Interns. 
  • Will cooperate and respect all staff members, including listening to and incorporating their ideas into the production. 
  • Responsible for creating a break-out workshop and theatre game schedule utilizing the strengths of all staff members and interns.  Communicate schedule well in advance so that staff has time to prepare their required workshop and interns can prepare games. Artistic Director will also participate and run his/her own workshops. 
  • Will mentor Assistants and Interns to enhance their experience as part of the program.
  • Will manage the rehearsal process in such a way as to ensure an appropriate balance among all aspects of the production and the program. 
  • Will provide direction and leadership in all artistic aspects of the production including, but not limited to, costuming, properties, lighting, sound, set, and make-up.
  • Will coordinate with the Production Manager in scheduling and conducting of Production Meetings as necessary and appropriate, and in ensuring the timely and effective execution of all such aspects of the production.
  • Will be present and cooperate in all promotional activities for WRT/WRYT during program dates (July 5 to August 14).
  • Will support efforts related to the production in areas such as publicity, fundraising, front of house, and program ad book, with the understanding that such areas are intended to complement the artistic aspects of the production.
  • Will work within the confines of the established budget.

Qualifications: 

-Experience directing middle school children preferred.
-Will be required to attend all mandatory meetings, training(s), and technical rehearsals.
-Will be subject to a CORI background check.
-May be asked to provide evidence of artistic ability (e.g. DVD’s of previously directed productions)
-Must be 21+

WRYT Music Director Job Description
Stipend: TBD

The Music Director is responsible for the following aspects of the program:

  • Will have oversight and responsibility for the instruction and rehearsal of the musical score of the production in a manner consistent with the vision of the program, the vision of the Artistic Director, the capabilities of the performers, and the limitations and/or requirements of the current production.
  • Will participate in the audition process and will provide input into the casting process regarding the singing capabilities and potential of students.
  • Will coordinate with the Artistic Director, Choreographer, and other artistic staff in establishing and managing a rehearsal schedule.
  • Will be responsible for outlining the orchestration and number of musicians to be used for the production; hiring them and coordinating them to be present during technical rehearsals and show performances.
  • Will coordinate with the Production Manager in scheduling and conducting Production Meetings as necessary and appropriate, and in ensuring the timely and effective execution of all such aspects of the production.
  • Will be present and cooperate in all promotional activities for WRT/WRYT during program dates (June 1 to August 9).
  • Will create and run break-out workshops related to music, bringing in specialists when applicable and if budget allows. Schedule to be created and communicated by the Artistic Director.
  • Will support efforts related to the production in areas such as publicity, fundraising, front of house, and program ad book, with the understanding that such areas are intended to complement the artistic aspects of the production.
  • Will cooperate and respect all staff members, including listening to and incorporating their ideas into the production.
  • Will work closely with the Assistant Music Director to guide them in understanding the full Director-level role for which they are shadowing.

Qualifications

  • Experience directing middle school children preferred.
  • Educator a plus.
  • Will be required to attend all mandatory meetings, training(s), and technical rehearsals.
  • Will be subject to a CORI background check.
  • May be asked to provide evidence of music ability (e.g. CD/DVD of performances).
  • Must be 18+

WRYT Choreographer Job Description
Stipend: TBD

The Choreographer is responsible for the following aspects of the program:

  • Will have oversight and responsibility for the conception, instruction and rehearsal of choreographed movement, in a manner consistent with the vision of the program, the vision of the Artistic Director, the capabilities of the performers, and the limitations and/or requirements of the current production.
  • Will participate in the audition process and will provide input into the casting process regarding the dance and movement capabilities and potential of audition candidates
  • Will coordinate with the Artistic Director, Music Director and other artistic staff in establishing and managing a rehearsal schedule
  • Will coordinate with the Music Director to ensure that all movement is being choreographed to the appropriate musical accompaniment, based on the production score.
  • Will coordinate with the Production Manager in scheduling and conducting Production Meetings as necessary and appropriate, and in ensuring the timely and effective execution of all such aspects of the production.
  • Will be present and cooperate in all promotional activities for WRT/WRYT during program dates (June 1 to August 9).
  • Will create and run break-out workshops related to dance and movement, bringing in specialists when applicable and if budget allows. Schedule to be created and communicated by the Artistic Director.

  • Must be 17+.

Camp Program and performances are held at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 350 Lynn Fells Parkway, Melrose, MA in a modern, air-conditioned facility (pending confirmation).
